Ceramic tiles are produced using a number of different raw materials in suitable blends: clays, which give the tile body mixture mechanical properties allowing it to be handled and transported; quartzes, intended to provide the ceramic body with a structure which will limit and control the variations in size during drying and firing operations, and feldspars or carbonates, which render the structure more or less vitreous and compact depending on the finished product required.
